About Project

We plan to generate an experiment with AI in collaboration with international artists, moving from a purely prompts-based approach to one focused on the possibility of creating generative models by feeding the AI with the artists' own images and thereby exploring new creative capabilities.

Current generative art is impersonal, formulaic and boring, is the statement that starts this project. Since the beginning of the boom of generative AI and chatbots, many artists surfed the wave of AI hype, rushing to generate images based on stolen data models and copypasted prompts and flooding different communities with their results that surprisingly celebrated AI's high capacity to generate a neural mishmash of overwhelmingly bland images. It is clear that this is the end result of an extractivist farm of large-scale collective creative capacity, which paradoxically has the capacity to reproduce an unimaginable infinity of images as diverse as they are identical to each other. The AI feeding on a great diversity of styles seems to end up erasing the uniqueness of the work in a universal homologation, it is not an image that loses its authenticity in the technical reproducibility, but a unique and at the same time radically inauthentic image. In our view, the curse of AI lies not intrinsically in AI, but in the approach itself: when did we ever imagine that art would be simply a matter of introducing a certain input with guidelines and even certain orders to obtain a result? This exhibition is an attempt to turn upside down the premise of generative art by proposing a creative experiment for breaking free from this prompt-matrix: the prompt delegates creativity to the machine, we want to rewire the AI by having the machine delegate creativity to the artist and have the machine function more as an extension of its creative ability to transmute its imagery into new forms. The experiment consists of feeding an artificial intelligence with the work of the participating artists, to obtain from their creative work, a recombination of its visual elements, exploring the possibility to expand creativity, instead of replacing it. And to reflect on the new ways of image alchemy by digital means.

Kin (Cultura Plasmic INC) (United Kingdom):

Somewhere between a collective and one artist.

Cultura Plasmic INC is a working class artist from Newcastle upon Tyne creating art that critically engages with surveillance capitalism, digital technology and mental health (e.g. psychological influence and manipulation of behaviour and decisions), social inequalities perpetuated by data-gathering practices and predictive technologies, and the relationship between hardware, software and the environment.

Constructing an elusive multi-pseudonymous practice, she plays with the radical potentialities of anonymity, an aesthetics of disappearance and counter-narratives that push back against a culture of status-seeking, attention-come-distraction, and the elevated individual. To read an in-depth article about her use of multiple aliases, see her text in Hypocrite Reader: Against the artist as brand.

Over the last few years she has developed a creative language that uses light and visibility to critique the surveillance capitalism that pervades our communication networks. She formulates metaphors arising from ‘natural’ landscapes to understand digital experiences and processes, bridging online and offline spaces, and highlighting the materiality and environmental cost of specific digital cultures. Her practice spans sound art, video art, installation, projection mapping, AR, music and sculpture, often with interactive elements.

Juan Benitez Castagnino (Peru):

Juan Benitez Castagnino studied Communications and Visual Arts at the University of Lima (2015-2022), and experimental painting at Corriente Alterna (2014).

As a comic artist, he allegorizes our social reality through the anthropomorphization of objects and icons from the natural world and cultural history; He also practices the characterization of mythological images that reflect universal patterns in addition to personal rituals. This process allows him to represent the essential qualities of signs, explore their meaningful possibilities, and reveal their semantic skeleton. Consequently, his work constitutes a fantastic allegory and a delirious compilation of universal culture, both popular and academic art.

His work has been presented at Art Gallery Weekend with Artdictos (2019); group exhibitions such as "Viajamos 4717 KM para darnos un abrazo" at NOW Galeria (2023), "Tensiones Generacionales" at Reckless (2023), and "Floperismo" at.

Subsequently, in 2007, he was selected as one of the "40 Artists for 40 Years of Korean Performance" at the Korea Experimental Arts Festival, presenting a live performance over the Internet. Regardless of genre, this artist has incorporated traditional techniques of expression such as installation, sculpture and tracing Korean painting into his avant-garde and experimental works.
